The luck of the draw when chosing a credit card

You don't have to be a gambler to put your money on the wrong choice of card. Interest rates on credit cards vary a great deal - make sure you choose the right one.

Don't make it the luck of the draw when you produce your credit card to pay for your next tank of fuel, weekend treat or holiday. You can ensure you're getting a good deal by checking out all the terms and interest rates charged on the various cards. Watch out for recent changes to your current card too.

If your credit cards have been pulled out of your wallet a few times too many, you could be struggling to pay off any balances. One way of easing this problem might be to switch to a new credit card company. Many of them are currently advertising low, or even 0%, interest rates for transferred balances.

If you feel that, having transferred the balances, you could reasonably expect to pay off the debt within the special period then it's a good move to make. If this is out of the question then you need to check what the normal interest rate would be as this is the rate which would apply at the end of the special rate period. The credit card company should let you have a reminder that the introductory rate is coming to an end. Keep the date in mind and be ready to switch to another good deal when the time comes

No matter how busy you are, you should always check your credit card bill. It's quite amazing how purchases bought less than a month ago can ago can slip from your mind. You should identify every one of your purchases and check carefully for mistakes. Always try to pay off the full amount if at all possible. If not, pay as much as you possible can. Paying the minimum amount month after month will lead to the debt spiralling out of control.
